In bed last night at 12:30, first kid was up at 2:30, next one up at 4:00, next one up at 5:45, last one made it all the way to 7:00 (Cutter :)) We were all able to nap today, but when we tried to get up it was BAD! Verdict: JET-LAGGED much.
The good news: got out in the sun today, we are so thankful to be home, got to drink tap water, had a wonderfully delicious meal brought to us by our sweet friends Eric Hixon and Rebekah Hixon...and now everyone is in bed sleeping but me :0. I sure hope I'm not far behind.
Fisher is doing pretty well. When we got in last night, we were all delirious. Our sweet friends the Ferrills met us at the airport. Fishers foster brother from New Day is their son. It was such a sweet, sweet reunion with hugs and kisses and tears! We got ALL of our luggage, thanks to a fantastic Delta employee in Beijing (will post about that another day) and then loaded in the car. Fisher was immediately infuriated about the car seat he had to sit in. But that was quickly remedied by the Krispy Kreme doughnuts our sweet friends had snuck in our car :). Poor Fisher fell asleep in the car with glaze still on his hands and mouth. We tried to keep as much of a routine as we could last night and were in bed around 12:30. This morning, was rough as I said before, but after we ate breakfast, we let the kids play inside, unpacked a few things, then went outside to enjoy the sunshine. There are so many things we don't really know if Fisher has ever seen or done. He got to swing today and loved it! He fed the horses some hay (threw it on the ground, he is terrified of them), and poured water in and out of buckets for at least an hour (after acting so surprised that I said it was ok). I mean, there are some things they just couldn't allow, I'm sure, in a group home, you know. You get 12 kids dumping water and that's a mess! So something so small, can be so big.
He did have a couple of meltdowns, and when he has a meltdown...oh.my.goodness. He is very, very loud. The cat jumped on the bed next to him this morning and he lost it. He was also extremely scared of the dogs last night. He is already better today, but still very leery and stays well away. He is doing well with dad so far and mom has been over and he seems fine so far with her also. We have been debating back and forth about sharing some guidelines that our agency gave us to give to our friends and family about how to interact with Fisher. But we have seen in several different situations, both in China, and already here at home, why they recommend these guidelines for interaction. Even though Fisher is doing really well, he has been through more than we can imagine. Things that would not upset a typical child of his age, can really affect him. Also, he has had so many care givers, never just one mommy and daddy. It will take some time for him to understand that we are his parents, and what that even really means. I will be posting the letter from our agency later and ask that you please take the time to read it. Even if you don't plan to come for a visit, it might come in handy in interacting with another family who has a newly adopted child. It may also answer some questions you might have. It might also help alleviate confusion or hurt feelings. We care about all of you and appreciate your love and support so much!
You know, I kept looking at Fisher today as he was swinging, or playing or sitting at the table eating. It just amazes me that HE IS REALLY HERE! No more skype, no more looking longingly at pictures on Facebook, he is really here! I stand amazed at Gods goodness and His mercy and the way He has made a way for this boy to be our son. Tomorrow we celebrate Easter, Resurrection Day. I have been pondering today about how all of this is because of Jesus and His life, death, and resurrection. Because of Him, I am a child of God, and Fisher is an ORPHAN NO MORE! Praise The Lord Jesus Christ! He is risen!
Praying you all have a blessed day tomorrow with your families. Please pray for us to get some sleep ;).
